Motorola Prizm (MotoPrizm) to hit Korea as an improved Krave ZN4

How would you like a Motorola Krave ZN4 with an 840 x 480 pixels display and a 3MP camera? I’m sure you’d choose it over Verizon’s Krave, which has a display of only 400 x 240 pixels and a 2MP camera.

Wel, for South Korea, Motorola thought the US features of ZN4 are not good enough, thus it upgraded the phone and changed its name into MotoPrizm (or Motorola Prizm).

So, as I said, the Prizm has a 2.8 inch WVGA (840 x 480 pixels) touchscreen display, a 3MP camera, mobile TV capabilities, Bluetooth and probably all the other things that are packed into the original Krave.

MotoPrizm should be soon available via SK Telecom, and it seems that it’s a Korea-only affair.

More phones for Verizon: Motorola Niagara, Fairbanks and Harmony

It looks like Motorola and Verizon Wireless indeed have big plans for 2009, and those four leaked handsets (Flash, Rush 2, Calgary and Inferno) are not the only surprises prepared by the two companies for next year.

According to BGR, at least other three new phones are scheduled for a 2009 release.

These are Motorola Niagara, Motorola Fairbanks and Motorola Harmony.

None of them seem to be high-end, but the Niagara surely looks good, sporting a slider design that might make it a next-generation RIZR (if Moto wants to continue with the RIZR line, of course).

Here’s what the Motorola Niagara looks like:

Motorola Fairbanks and Motorola Harmony, the other two handsets that Verizon will out sometime next year, are both clamshells. Fairbanks is a rugged PTT one, while Harmony looks like a music-centric device, with touch-sensitive external keys.

There are no details about the new handsets’ features for the moment, nor about their prices and exact release dates.

Nokia and Motorola have 90% of the Chinese smartphone market

According to a study published by CCID Consulting, China’s smartphone market is currently dominated by Nokia and Motorola, the two companies’ products accounting for 89.15% of the total market share.

More exactly, in the third quarter of 2008, Nokia had a market share of 69.2%, while Motorola’s devices represent 19.9% of the smartphones sold.

Other manufacturers that worth mentioning are Dopod (owned by HTC), Samsung, Coolpad (a local brand) and Sony Ericsson.

As you can see, LG is the only big name that doesn’t have an important market share in China.

Obviously, Symbian is the leader when it comes to Operating Systems, while Linux and Windows Mobile follow on the second and the third place.

Overall, there were 7.474 million handsets sold in Q3 2008 in China - the world’s largest mobile market.

Motorola Flash, Rush 2, Calgary and Inferno all leaked on the way to Verizon in 2009

And here I thought Motorola was sleeping on its laurels. Well, those that it still had on them, anyway. Apparently, the company’s adopted some sort of new hush-hush approach to developing their products, especially those that are most likely to catch the public’s attention.

Displayed here in all their drool-worthy glory are a total of four upcoming Motorola phones for Verizon’s network, and not one of these disappoint when it comes to looks, at the very least. Time will tell what features exactly each model holds.

For now, Motorola fans can settle on the fact that these handsets are as sure as the sun’s setting in the afternoon, and that they’re all scheduled for release some time in 2009 under Verizon’s network. The red-hot QWERTY Rush 2, pictured below, is said to be the first one of these that will come out, during Q1 of 2009.

The other two handsets on display are the Motorola Calgary (the silver one with a QWERTY keyboard), and the Motorola Inferno (the one that looks like a MOTO MING).

Motorola A3000/ A3100 - Moto Attila get’s the model number. At least in China

The news about the upcoming Motorola Atila phone keep on leaking.

We’ve already know pretty much about this upcoming touchscreen handset, and even seen live pics of it several times.

We also know that it should be launched sometime early next year, probably during CES Las Vegas (January) or MWC Barcelona (February).

And today we can tell you it’s model number.

According to some Chinese sites Atila touchscreen phone will be called Motorola A3000 and/or A3100, depending on final final specs and operator.

To remind you the details, Motorola A3000/ A3100 Atila will be a pretty powerful toucscreen handset with:

• 850/1900/2100 Mhz GSM/GPRS/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA connectivity
• 528 Mhz Qualcomm CPU, 256 ROM, 128MB RAM
• Windows Mobile 6.1
• 2.8″ QVGA 262K color display
• 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED Flash
• 1130 mAh battery

The new Motorola A3000/A3100 model name will probably be applicable mostly in Asia, where this handset will be the successor to popular MotoMing A series phones like Motrola A1600/ A1800.

If it ever appears in U.S and Europe, the new handset will probably become something of ZN series, just like Motorola A1600 became Motorola ZN4 Krave.

Motorola i9 official pics surface - a release should follow soon

For an iDEN phone, Motorola i9 sure looks pretty. As a matter of fact, it looks really nice for a regular phone too, and its official press photos that have just leaked on the Web can only confirm this.

The i9 is a clamshell (in the RAZR style) that comes with an external screen and lots of external keys that seem to be touch-sensitive. I can clearly spot music dedicated keys, as well as some camera-related keys.

And speaking of camera, the back of Moto i9 hosts a 3.1 MP one with both autofocus and flash. I don’t think there’s any other iDEN handset out there to have a camera with these performances.

The alphanumeric keypad of i9 is flat and probably easy to use. Other than that, the rumored features of the phone include GPS and Bluetooth.

Most probably, Sprint Nextel will be the first carrier to release the Motorola i9. And although there are no details yet about when this will happen, I wouldn’t be surprised if the handset were available across the US in the first months of 2009.

$4 Motorola W180 can be OLPC of mobile phones

Does Motorola think it can rake in millions of dollars in revenue because of its over-priced masterpiece called the Aura? No, of course not. So what’s the company going to do about it? Why, make a mobile phone for the opposite end of the price range, of course. In the far, far opposite end, that is.

If you happen to be in the UK, and are looking for a really, really, really, really cheap mobile phone that you can maybe give away to a number of your friends this Christmas, this is it. The Motorola W180 only costs an astonishing £2.89 price tag, and that’s about $4.30 and €3.40.

For its price, you’d be a fool to think it would be anything else other than just a low-end mobile phone. It serves up dual-band GSM access, a small color screen, and USB 2.0 connectivity, before losing everything else.

But come to think of it, this seems like the perfect mobile phone to give away during the holiday season. Since we’re in some sort of financial crisis and all, the least you could do is give something, anything, away. And you could use this for that purpose without spending too much of your money.

MOTOYUVA W396 joins Motorola’s low-end phone fleet in India

We had first uncovered this phone, the Motorola W396, a few months back as part of a trio of phone leaks in Motorola’s list of wap profiles. I had wondered back then why it had such an unimpressive feature set, but now it’s clear. This is a phone for the low-end market.

Launched just recently in India, the MOTOYUVA W396 is an affordable yet stylish-looking clamshell handset, with looks that only the maker of the original RAZR can produce. The essence of its design has long died, but it’s always nice to see fairly inexpensive phones dressed up nicely.

What does it do? Well, the MOTOYUVA W396 is a multimedia-centric phone, so it’s only fitting that it’s equipped with the latest version of Motorola’s MP3 player software, FM radio with RDS, stereo speakers and A2DP Bluetooth.

It also gives access to MOTOMUSIC, a Web and WAP service combo that’s got a MOTOMUSIC scratch card inbox offering 10 free ringtone downloads out of the box. It accepts microSD cards up to 2GB in size so you can rest assured that you always have an ample amount of space for your data. The built-in camera could’ve used an improvement, having only VGA resolution and 4x digital zoom, but the emphasis remains to be on music anyway, so most users should find that OK.

Apart from what’s mentioned, the MOTOYUVA W396 functions just like any other phone. It has a color screen, comfortable keypad, and it works in airplane mode (without a SIM card).

It costs Rs. 4,199 about ($88 USD) in India, and it’s available in all MOTO Stores and retailers.

Motorola V750 now available on Telus

During these tough times, fairly affordable tough phones have become quite a rarity. However, Motorola is working quietly to fill this small gap in the mobile phone market, with the Motorola Adventure V750.

This rugged and rather good-looking clamshell phone has made an appearance on Verizon’s line-up a few months back, and now it’s just been made available on Canada’s Telus mobile network. This phone is available with 1-year (for $349.99), 2-year (for $299.99), and 3-year (for $149.99) contracts or unlocked and contract-free for $399.99.

For its price, the Motorola V750 boasts a military-grade shock-proof, dust-proof, and vibration-proof casing that weighs only a measly 111 grams. Of course, typical mobile phone features are also on-board, as well as a 2-megapixel camera, 2.5mm headphone jack and support for up to 8GB memory.

If you want a phone that can last as long as its contract, or even longer, this is one model that you should definitely look into.

Motorola Aura now available for $2,000, no less

If for some reason, you’d rather spend $2,000 worth of your hard-earned money on something that doesn’t really look like it’s worth that much, boy, has Motorola got an option for you. Announced way back in October, the swiveling, round display-equipped Motorola Aura is now available from Motorola’s web site.

Why is this news? To address that question without feeling like I’m answering my editor, I’ll just point you to an earlier post we made that said the Motorola Aura can’t be sold on eBay or anywhere else. In other words, the Aura is, and always will be, a Motorola exclusive.

And that’s exactly what they’re saying about it over on the Motorola web site. The proud words “Moto Store Exclusive” are printed over the handset itself in pictures.

As earlier announced, it comes with a circular, 16 million color display that’s protected by a 62-carat sapphire crystal coating. Other features include a 2-megapixel fixed focus camera, internal quad band GSM antenna, 2GB of on-board memory and microUSB connectivity. Oh, and don’t forget that stainless steel housing.

It costs $1,999.99 and a lot of blind faith. Available now with free shipping from the Moto Store. Of course, you could always just go for other cheap alternatives…

Motorola MOTOROKR EM35 officially announced: music all the way

Step aside, Nokia, because today, December 2, is also Motorola’s day (well, sort of). The American handset manufacturer has just announced its latest music phone, which is named MOTOROKR EM35 and comes to offer an “exceptional audio experience for music and talk”.

The EM35 is a pretty cool-looking slider that runs on a Linux Java 7.4 platform and features dedicated music controls, a 3.5mm headset jack and CrystalTalk technology, among others.

It’s only a mid-end handset, and perhaps its main drawback is the lack of 3G connectivity.

Anyway, here are the full specs of MOTOROKR EM35, besides the ones we’ve already mentioned:

Motorola RAZR3/Ruby canceled

Back in September we told you that Motorola has been working on a successor to their RAZR line - RAZR3 phone codenamed Ruby.

Well, today I have some bad news for anyone who has been waiting to upgrade their current RAZR2s. Do not wait anymore, just look for some other phone instead. Motorola RAZR3/Ruby has been canceled.

I probably should have seen this coming when Motorola announced the reorganization of it’s Mobile Division in October. Since RAZR3/Ruby has been based on Symbian UIQ, and Motorola is ditching this platform in favor of Android, the phone has been axed too.

Oh well, another disappointment from Motorola. But I’m already used to that.

And at least I can show you what Motorola RAZR3/Ruby would have looked like:

Motorola Alexander and Motorola Attila live pics

We’ve known since early August that Motorola Atila and Alexander touchscreen phones are in the works.

And we’ve even some live pics of a working Motorola Attila phone recently.

Well, today we have some more live pics for you, courtesy of Chinese site IT168.com:

Well, apart from the live pics, there’s no additional info about the new handsets. We already knew some specs, but not much.

The only new thing that can be gleaned from these pictures is the screen size of Motorola Alexander. We know that Attila wil have 2.8″ display, and Alexander’s screen in the picture is obviously smaller. So it probably will be 2.6″.

Other then that, we’ll have to wait for more leaks, that I’m sure are coming if Motorola won’t announce the new phones soon.

MOTO QA30 leaked: Motorola’s first QWERTY slider

Why look what we have here: MOTO QA30, the very first Motorola slider that features a full QWERTY keyboard.

The QA30 has a pretty weird form factor, somehow resembling AT&T’s Samsung Propel.

Unlike the Propel, however, which is a GSM phone, MOTO QA30 is a CDMA one that, according to the images found at Howard Forums, will be released by Alltel in the US.

Of course, we don’t know yet when this will happen. We do have, though, most of the specs and features that MOTO QA30 will come with.

Here they are:

Motorola Attila shows up in the wild

Slowly but surely, Motorola is easing away from the tired design of the old RAZR and looks ready to try something new. Their first QWERTY slider could be launching soon, in the form of the Motorola QA30, and now we find that the Motorola Attila, too, takes on a new approach in design.

If these leaked Motorola Attila pictures turn out to be of the real thing, that is. You see, while we here at Unwired View are as thirsty for new material as the next phone geek, we’re not entirely convinced that Motorola will launch a robust, iPhone clone-like handheld like this one as their official iPhone killer.

We have faith left in Motorola, no matter how little, and somehow know that they won’t (or shouldn’t) come out with a monstrosity such as this, if their successful days with the slim and sharp RAZR taught them any good.

The fact that the second photo we’ve embedded here shows the alleged Motorola Attila with a very iPhone-esque theme doesn’t help convince us either. With a theme like that, it might as well be just another clone, much like the Motorola Aura knock-off we spotted last week.

Well, if ever they get their chance, I’m sure Motorola will officially announce and release the Attila… some day. By then, we’ll find out if “antony3322@PhoneHK” was right all along.

Motorola MOTO VE66 gets officially announced

A couple of its photos have been leaked before, and its user-interface has been exposed, but now the Motorola MOTO VE66 is officially official. Yep, you can’t get any more official than that.

This is Motorola’s first feature-rich phone in quite a long time, packing in a 5-megapixel camera, built-in Wi-Fi, and a 2.2-inch TFT LCD screen in a 15.2 mm thin body.

As for the overall package, the MOTO VE66 isn’t that bad. In fact, it’s one of Motorola’s best-equipped phones this year. And at least it’s got the looks to go along with the great features, for anyone who would be interested.

Motorola launches the MOTO VE240 in the US

MOTO VE240 is the name of latest phone that Motorola has prepared for the mobile users in the US.

The new phone was just announced today and it will be available soon via Cricket Communications and MetroPCS, two of the largest regional US mobile carriers.

Coming as a simple candybar, Motorola VE240 is not exactly the hottest phone around. Its features are also far from what we can find in handsets like the Moto Krave ZN4, for example. But that’s OK, since the VE240 is a device made for customers who are on a budget.

Here are the known specs and capabilities of MOTO VE240:

• 1.5 inch CSTN display with 128 x 128 pixels and 65K colors
• MP3 player
• Bluetooth
• “High audio” speakerphone
• 2.5-mm stereo headset jack
• USB 2.0
• Picture messaging

Cricket said the MOTO VE240 will be available for only $89.99 after a $30 instant rebate. Tusla will be the first town to get the new candybar, while Cricket’s other markets should get it starting the coming weeks.

MetroPCS will launch the MOTO VE240 in the next weeks too, but it didn’t say for what price.
